Improve fuel economy,
and protect operations

19 DECEMBER 2023

Failure to act

Fuel and tank cleaning involves finding cleaning techniques that limit environmental impact, support safer working practices – at the lowest possible cost. This process can often be seen as an afterthought, a bolt on to overall operations, however the commercial value that can be gained with the right planning and preparation can be significant.

Like many things planning and preparation is key to success. Failure to put in place the right steps to effectively clean your diesel fuel will ultimately degrade your fuel economy over time, damage expensive fuel system components and can ultimately lead to unnecessary and costly shutdowns.

Know your enemies

Typical contaminants include bacteria, accumulated sludge, biological growth mix and metal particles, however the most common and sometimes the worst fuel contaminant is water. Water can reduce fuel's lubricating qualities and can cause severe engine damage. By reducing/removing water and the other contaminants will not only protect your fuel system, but will reduce rust, corrosion, wear and tear, fuel degradation and other damage.

The tell tail signs

Accumulated muck, sludge, water mixed with fuel in the tank will quickly overwhelm the primary fuel filter slowing down the engine performance. If fuel filters are clogging routinely, if they require being replaced frequently, this can only really mean one thing – the tanks are contaminated.

Experience pays

Proven separation methods and equipment exist, but failure to adopt the right approach can often lead to further complications and greater inefficiencies. Only by examining the fuel and breaking down its components can you then fully understand the right method to apply.

Many times, we have been involved in scenarios where clients have come to us because of inexperienced hands providing either a short-term fix or inadequate equipment that at times, has left them in a worse state than when they started.

The right methodology is key, at OSSO our approach has been refined and improved through many years of experience and is a combination of technical and separation expertise coupled with fuel/fluid analysis and the supply and installation of equipment.

Our length of service and depth of understanding surrounding the complexities involved in fuel/fluid separation is why we continue to support clients the world over. Helping them improve not only their fuel efficiency, but their waste streams too.
